Balloon (clear, if possible), 1 per child
Seeds (radish seeds work well)
Ribbon or yarn (optional)
Help each child pour 1/2 cup of dirt into a balloon. (This works best when holding the balloon by the neck and using the funnel.) Pour in 1/4 cup of water and make sure the soil in the balloon is saturated, but not soaked. Drop the seeds into the balloon without turning the balloon over. Wipe off any dirt on the outside of the balloon and carefully blow air into the balloon without letting it tip. Knot the balloon and, if desired, decorate the neck with a ribbon or yarn bow. Tell the children to take the balloons home and hang them near a window, keeping the neck at the top. They will enjoy watching the seeds grow inside the balloon.
